What is EMDR?

EMDR is a type of therapy that helps people with traumatic memories. It involves focusing on the memory while also doing something that stimulates both sides of the body (usually moving the eyes). This can make the memory less intense and emotional. EMDR has been studied a lot and is proven to be a helpful therapy for trauma and PTSD. Ongoing research also shows that it can be useful for other problems like anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and difficult experiences in life.

EMDR therapy doesn't involve a lot of talking about the upsetting event or doing homework outside of sessions. Instead of trying to change how you feel, think, or act because of the issue, EMDR therapy lets your brain naturally heal itself.

EMDR therapy helps heal unresolved traumatic memories in the brain. It often takes fewer sessions than other types of therapy.

EMDR Sessions

During the preparation phase of EMDR therapy, we'll talk about what you want to work on and give you tools to use throughout the process. This way, you'll be ready to start treatment knowing you have strategies in case you need them, and you can ask any questions you have.

Once we finish the initial work, we will start the treatment process to help reduce symptoms and support your brain's natural healing.
